Those are the words of Wynyard's Damien Stewart, who along with his family lost their Austin Street home and all their belongings in a fire on Tuesday morning.
The family also believed that one of their two dogs died in the blaze but the dog has not been found at this stage.
Mr Stewart, who was working at Stanley at the time, got the call from his wife at 10.30am, with the house fully engulfed.
"She was just in the shower and noticed smoke coming in under the door," Mr Stewart said.
"She opened the door and the whole house was fully up (in flames).
"She was able to go through my daughter's bedroom and was able to just get out of the window with just a towel on.
"She rang me from the neighbours phone and I rang a few people to get there to help my wife and I came home to see what we are seeing now."
The house was fully engulfed when emergency services arrived.
Mr Stewart explained his emotions as the house continued to smolder behind him.
"Emotions are going to be all over the place - it's very upsetting," he said
"I'm worried about my dog, the other dog is alright and I'm worried about wife and my kids but at least they are safe.
"I'm just glad my family's alive."
Mr Stewart praised the emergency services for their prompt response.
"The ambos were awesome with my wife and they were attending to her when I arrived," he said.
Brigades from Wynyard, Burnie, Somerset and Boat Harbour attended the blaze, which resulted in a loss of $500,000 - $400,000 of which was the cost of the house and $100,000 of contents.
Burnie firefighter Wayne Viney said the fire was deemed accidental.
"The most likely cause of the fire was a naked flame from an oil burner," he said.
While it is unknown whether it had an impact in this instance, Mr Viney said people shouldn't leave candles unattended, especially around family pets.
Incident controller Bruce Corbett, from Wynyard Fire Brigade, said multiple 000 calls were made and when they arrived the house was fully engulfed.
At the time of the fire, TasNetworks switched off the power in the area and all emergency services attended the scene.
Austin Street was closed between Jenner Street and Reid Street while the Tasmania Fire Service responded to the fire but this road block opened shortly before 5pm.
Lifeline Wynyard has offered to help the family and encouraged them to visit the store on Goldie Street if they needed assistance.
