Lawyer Greg Barns says claims Tasmanian government can't intervene in Ashley Youth Detention Centre whistleblower Alysha's workers compensation case are BS

"His government is the client," Greg Barns SC tweeted on Thursday, referring to Premier Jeremy Rockliff.

Mr Rockliff on Monday said he could not and would not intervene in the case of whistleblower Alysha, and the government maintained that stance during the week.

Alysha says the workers compensation matter has her family in danger of losing its home and is affecting her health and hurting her family.

"I've done the state a service and am being destroyed," she said.

"I don't know why."

She says she has been forced to take part in a string of harrowing psychiatric assessments, with the government wanting a fifth that she says would be dangerous for her health.

Alysha's revelations were pivotal to former premier Peter Gutwein's decision to close Ashley and she was a key witness in the recent Ashley hearings at the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government's Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.

Labor's Shadow Children and Youth Minister, Sarah Lovell, said the Premier must intervene.

"Alysha should not be punished by the state for raising the issue of sexual assault and other matters at AYDC," Ms Lovell said on Thursday.

"The lengths the government have gone to to fight her workers compensation claim are cruel and heartless, and causing untold harm to Alysha and her family.

"The Premier must intervene in this matter and instruct the solicitor general to settle the claim now."

Independent MPs Meg Webb, Andrew Wilkie and Kristie Johnston on Wednesday gathered to appeal for Mr Rockliff's intervention in the matter.

It is understood the government will appoint independent lawyers to the case, removing its carriage from the solicitor general's office.

Ms Webb on Thursday tweeted: "What guarantee will Premier Rockliff and AG Archer (Attorney General Elise Archer) give that, having shifted from OSG to external lawyers, this process will now be conducted appropriately and promptly?"

"Who was previously instructing on this case?"

"Who is now instructing?

"Will the doctor shopping end?"

Asked for a response, a government spokesperson reproduced their comments from Wednesday.

"It would not be appropriate for the government to intervene in active workers compensation claims, as it is important they are treated lawfully and fairly without political interference," they said.

Questioned about appointing external lawyers, they repeated: "It would not be appropriate for the government to comment on individual cases through the media."

Even lawyers familiar with the case have similar questions.

" ... whilst the news that the state will appoint external counsel to handle Alysha's matter going forward is welcome, we are still waiting on crucial answers including whether the state will insist on its proposed fourth medical evaluation, who was actually instructing the SGO ...," experienced lawyer Angela Sdrinis said.

Angela Sdrinis Legal is involved with a class action against the state on behalf of former Ashley detainees.

The class action seeks damages for four plaintiffs and more than 100 other people the firm describes as survivors of serious assaults at the centre.

The first directions hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Monday.
