Louis O'Connor faced Burnie Magistrate Court on Tuesday charged with unlawfully destroying property, unlawfully using a dangerous article in a public place and letting off a firework.
Police allege Mr O'Connor went to the Empire Hotel on Queenstown's Orr Street around 2.25pm armed with a machete.
He allegedly smashed 21 windows at the hotel.
"As the man left the scene he ignited several small firecrackers he had in his possession," a police spokesperson said.
"The male walked to the Queenstown Police Station where he surrendered himself to police.
"He is continuing to assist police in their investigation into the incident.
"At no point were staff at the hotel or members of the public directly threatened by the male and no injuries were sustained during the incident."
O'Connor has been remanded in custody to appear in court in two weeks.
