For 45 years Merrilyn Young has served the Meander Valley Council tirelessly and has decided it is time to move on to a new chapter of her life.

Her career at the council began at the mere age of 15 and said it has been a workplace that made coming to work enjoyable.
"I start as a junior typist at the Deloraine Council back in 1977," she said.
"It was a big decision actually as I hadn't finished grade ten. I took the job and it was the right decision in the end.
"While there I got promoted to payroll officer then we amalgamated in 1993 with Westbury Council, which is one of the best things that ever happened."

Mrs Young had many different roles over the her career, including payroll officer and aide to the General Manager. She spent the last six months of her career as community programs officer.
"I enjoyed my role for the last six months, as I transitioned into retirement. I have always loved working in the community," she said.
Mrs Young has lived in Deloraine all her life and is passionate about the area. She has many plans as to what to do after her retirement.
She also plans to do more travelling and still be an active member of the community.
"My sister and nephew live in Sydney so I can spend some more time with them. I also want to do a lot more gardening," she said.
"I'm still involved in the football club and the show society. I"m secretary of the craft fair so I will have plenty to do. I would love to do some volunteering at Just Cats, so I'll be just fine."
"I have no problems at all about what to do."
