Ms Flaherty will now pass over the keys to another florist, however, it will be no stranger as it will be taken over by Ms Flaherty's mentee Frances Herrick who owns Fran's Flowers.
Ms Flaherty said it was time for a new challenge.
"I'm 72," she laughed. "I need to be retired. It's great because Frances has bought it, so I know someone is going to look after it."
Ms Flaherty said she loved playing with flowers everyday.
"I just loved everything to do with flowers," she said.
Ms Flaherty said she remembered her father being a keen gardener.
"I exhibited in floral competitions since I was five. It just went from there," she said.
It was five years ago when Ms Herrick worked from Ms Flaherty, it was when a another floristry came available for sale, Ms Flaherty pushed Ms Herrick to chase the dream of her own shop.
"She told me to go do that, to take the opportunity," Ms Herrick said.
At Kings Meadows Floristry, Ms Flaherty ensured 90 per cent of the flowers were locally produced.
"They come straight from the farm, there is no middle man for me," she said.
Ms Herrick said having Tasmanian grown flowers was something she would continue.
"We source everything from Tasmanian growers at my three stores," she said.
Ms Herrick said Ms Flaherty had mentored her since she walked in her shop door for a job.
"Not long after that, a florist came up for sale and she encouraged me to do that because there are not many opportunities for that," she said.
"She helped me grow my first business, she guided me through the ins and outs of the business world."
Manager Faith Emmanuel, who was trained by Ms Herrick's sister, said she was excited to take over the shop.
"My favourite part of floristry is that we get to be a part of the community," she said.
"We get to be here for the best and worst days of people's lives. It's wonderful that Liz is trusting us with her baby."
