Launceston Dan Murphy's moves to solar energy

The business switched on its rooftop solar panels on Friday, after a few weeks of installation.

Dan Murphy's national renewal operations manager Tyson Holbery said the Launceston store is now one of 27 powered by solar energy.

"We are making our stores more sustainable, and energy use is a big part of our efforts," he said.

Store manager Emma White said many patrons commented on the roof works during the installation.

"It's really exciting from a store point of view that Dans is going down a green initiative," she said.

"Our team are very excited to have the solar panels on the roof ... over the last few weeks during installation we've had quite a few customers who were curious about what we were doing."

"Their feedback has been fantastic as well."

The move will save Dans energy as well as money.

Mr Holbery said "the system is estimated to generate enough solar energy to offset approximately 30 percent of the store's annual power consumption and save approximately 140 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually."
