Water levels rose throughout Monday night to a peak around midnight, causing the river to break its banks near the bridge on Leighlands Road.
The water level had almost reached the bridge on Tuesday morning.
The BOM downgraded the flood warning for the South Esk from moderate to minor as rainfall eased on the East Coast at the end of the weekend.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A spokesperson said the water level would most likely begin to drop off from Tuesday morning.
Rainfall will persist for the remainder of the week in Tasmania's North, but will not reach high levels seen on the East Coast over the weekend, which caused the South Esk to rise.
Rainfall averages will be between two and eight millimetres on Tuesday, five to 10 millimetres on Wednesday and similar through to Friday before easing off again.
