The $435,000 project features two charging outlets at 3 Commonwealth Lane, Campbell Town with the ability to give an electric vehicle 350 kilometres range in only 15 minutes.

It's Evie Networks first station in the state, with two more planned. Before the station opened on Tuesday, there were no charging options on the Midland Highway between Launceston and Kempton.

The networks' chief executive officer Chris Mills said the station was powered by 100 percent renewable energy and its centralised site unlocked the open road for drivers by connecting the north and south.

"Campbell Town and its surrounds have been a meeting place and rest stop for travellers from the first Australians to bullock drivers, stagecoaches, motor vehicles and now EV drivers," he said.

"Evie Networks is excited to enable EV drivers to travel beyond the city and enjoy more of Tasmania's incredible scenery and history by catering for all available EV models."

Drivers will be able to charge for free at the 350 kilowatt site throughout August.

Chargefox announced last year the town would have the state's first ultra-fast charging station but later changed its location to Kings Meadows.

However Evie Networks stepped in and lodged its own development application for a ultra-fast charging station at Campbell Town, it was approved in February.
