Northern Bombers coach Taylor Whitford assigned the former Hawk to five-time premiership defender Jack Avent and the 27-year-old glazier proved the perfect fit.
As well as limiting Lovell's influence to two first-half goals, Avent gathered a whopping 35 touches to secure three votes in the player of the year award from forward Bart McCulloch (two) and Whitford (one).
"Taylor just came to me Wednesday and said 'you're going to Kieran'," Avent said.
"Obviously he's got a couple of player of the weeks in a row and he's the chief driver of their football club.
"I just went out like any other game really, just planned to do my role and shut him down so hopefully I went alright."

Avent said his coach and captain had been crucial in helping him prepare for Lovell, who had collected 27-plus touches in three of his four games prior.
"Taylor and the coaches, they're really good at getting on Hudl and getting clips for us and stuff like that," Avent said.
"I had a lot of chats with Bradley Cox-Goodyer the last couple of nights [before the game] about how he sets up around the stoppages and their go-tos and stuff like that, so there's plenty of people at the club to talk to about that and they're very knowledgeable."
Elsewhere, Launceston captain Jobi Harper bagged his third three-vote game of the season after collecting 31 touches in a one-point loss to Clarence.
The match broke a number of TSL records as the two sides combined for just three goals - two of which came in the first and last two minutes of the match.
