Operations at JBS’s Longford Abattoir will be unaffected by its shock Devonport closure announcement, the government say.

State Growth Minister Peter Gutwein confirmed both abattoirs were owned by the company.
“They have essentially operated as separate business entities therefore the future of one is not directly linked to the future of the other,” he said.
In February last year, 130 workers were suspended due to a sheep and lamb shortage.
In September the same year, about 40 workers from the Longford site were made redundant.
When the plant initially put operations on hold in February, the employees were kept on the JBS books, meaning they were not eligible for any government benefits or welfare.
On Monday afternoon, JBS announced about 100 people would lose their jobs from the Devonport site after plans to permanently cease operating the abattoir.
The site will be closed from November 15.
The facility processes most of Tasmania’s pigs, and can process up to 200 cattle, 600 pigs and 3800 sheep per week.
