Launceston resident and active community member Alan Harris announced he would be running for the positions of alderman and mayor on the City of Launceston Council during the October elections.
Mr Harris, who ran for selection at the last elections in 2014, said he believed the council was due for some fresh blood and talent.
“The council has done a lot of good things for Launceston but sometimes they don’t think small enough,” he said.
Mr Harris said he believed it was important a council ensured it was balancing making the small decisions that would improve the lives of its ratepayers and the big-picture projects.

He said he lives by the mantra of being selfless – “it’s amazing what you can accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit,” a quote by Harry Truman, the 33rd US president.
Mr Harris lives at Norwood and is chairman of the Southern Launceston Community Development Committee, he is the Rotary Club of Central Launceston secretary and has been a member since 2003 and was the chairman of the Carrick community committee in the early 2000s.
The Launceston mayoral race is so far between Mr Harris, sitting mayor Albert van Zetten, current alderman Janie Finlay and resident Basil Fitch.
Candidates for City of Launceston Council deputy mayor include Simon Wood, Danny Gibson, Hugh McKenzie and Andrea Dawkins.
All of the candidates for deputy mayor are current alderman, except for Andrea Dawkins, a former Greens MP. However, Ms Dawkins has previously served on the council.
The council is set for a shake up with at least one new member, after Alderman Darren Alexander announced his resignation on Monday.
Ald Alexander cited family and business reasons for his decision to resign, effective immediately.
It has not been confirmed if he will run as a candidate in the Hobart City Council elections.
Local government elections will be held across the state in October.
