Tucked away just off the main street lies Bar Two: a venue offering a range of Tasmania’s exquisite wines, gins and delicious produce.
For owner Nathan 'Nate' Cairns the “little hole in the wall”, which can be found down the walkway between The Running Company and Festivus Cafe, had been a dream for many years.
“I thought it was just a good time to open a little hole in the wall, friendly, fun, neighbourhood kind of bar that just happens to have a good selection of Tassie wine,” he said.
For the past four months Mr Cairns had been working on transforming the venue’s “empty shell” into a quaint space for people to enjoy Tasmania’s stunning pinots while nibbling on locally sourced cheese and small-plated foods.
“I come from a bar background and I’ve always wanted to do a bar,” he said.
“Wine should just be about fun, good food, family and friends just hanging and drinking without feeling intimidated or being bored.”
That relaxed vibe is exactly what Bar Two’s cosy capacity of 20 will offer to the community and visitors alike.
Mr Cairns not only has 25 years’ experience in the restaurant business, his father also owns Tasmanian Organic Wines.
“My father has a vineyard so I’ve always had that connection with wine,” he said.
Mr Cairns spent a “long, long” time visiting small vineyards across the state to stock the bar.
“Every wine has a story,” he said.
“I love what I do. I love wine, I love food and I love interacting with people,” Mr Cairns said.
Mr Cairns will run the bar with the help of his wife Fatin.
Bar Two will open Monday to Thursday from 4pm to 11pm, and Friday to Saturday from midday to midnight.
The “little hole in the wall” is on the ground floor of 47A Brisbane Street, Launceston.
Bar Two is located under Cinco Passiones, a bar which offers single malt Tasmanian whiskeys and handmade cocktails.
