The Tassie outfit scored an 83-61 triumph against ladder-leader Melbourne United at Derwent Entertainment Centre on Saturday night.
It was a must-win game and now they are relying on Perth Wildcats to lose against South East Melbourne Phoenix on Sunday in Perth from 5.30pm.
The JackJumpers needed Perth to lose their final two games and the Wildcats fell by five points to Illawarra Hawks on Friday night.
There's plenty at stake for Perth who haven't missed the play-offs for 35 years.
If Perth lose, the JackJumpers will play Melbourne United in Thursday's semi-final at John Cain Arena.
It was a tight tussle in the opening quarter against United on Saturday.
Josh Adams hit a trio of threes in the opening stanza as the JackJumpers went to the first break two points down.
The second term was similar with United outscoring the Tassie side by two points again.
The third quarter was where everything changed.
The JackJumpers went on a scoring spree with 29 points to Melbourne's nine.
Jack McVeigh and Adams were on fire and were scoring one after the other.
McVeigh registered seven points while Adams sunk 10 points, including a dunk.
Captain Clint Steindl also successfully dunked in a quarter to remember.
The JackJumpers kept up their strong momentum in the final stanza, outscoring Melbourne 21-15.
MiKyle McIntosh led the scoring with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists. Adams was next best on the scoresheet with 19 points while Josh Magette had 14.
Tasmania would be the first foundation club to make finals in their inaugural season since Gold Coast Blaze in 2008.
