Established the season after his 2017 passing, the cup will see the pair's under-18s, development league and senior teams play for it, with the club that scores the most goals adjudged the winner.
Edwards worked for The Examiner for 15 years, interviewing Launceston's Mitch Thorp and North Launceston's Brad Cox-Goodyer throughout his time.
"On a personal level, Phil was the sports journo at The Examiner, so I got to know him quite well and [I] went to his funeral," Thorp said.

"The Phil Edwards Cup is really, really important that his memory of what he did in sports journalism lives on and having an under-18s, development league and seniors total goals, I think that's a really nice way to cover the whole day."
Cox-Goodyer added: "Obviously Phil has done a lot for sport in Launceston so I think both clubs look forward to playing on this day.
"It's obviously a marquee day, it's a big day no matter which ground it's played at, there's plenty of crowd to support.
"It will be interesting over the day because our under-18s and development league are going really well and so are Launceston's so it will be a really good day and hopefully we can get that one over the line."
The cup has changed hands on several occasions, with Launceston winning both the inaugural and most recent occasions (2018 and 2021), while North won it in 2019 and held it through 2020 when it wasn't contested.
