President Andy Prideaux said the event at the Town Hall was a great way to celebrate 40 years of being part of the community, and he felt humbled to see so many people in the room.
"The support that the Musical Society has is just evident in the room, it's just amazing. It epitomises what community theatre is all about," he said.

"It was a nice way for past members and past performers to catch up again and just celebrate 40 years of performing."
Mr Prideaux said looking toward the society's future, the group would still be performing and had a few shows for next year in the works.
"We are branching out to work with other local groups as well. There are also some things in the pipeline, but I can't say what just yet," he said.
Past president Gina McKenzie gave a speech at the event and asked the life members, all of whom were in attendance, to join her on stage to recognise the work they had done for the society.
"These people have to go through a pretty rigorous set of criteria ... the Launceston Musical Society thanks you for all you have done and your continued support over the past 40 years," she said.
"[Forty] years eh, not a bad innings."
