The event was cancelled for 2020 amid major COVID concerns, and this year will be no different.
Project chairwoman Julianne Stevens said persisting COVID restrictions, despite an update COVID-safe events framework, made it impossible to carry out the parade.
"We just can't hold it because of the restrictions," she said.
"[And] we don't want to be responsible for a super spreader event."
Ms Stevens said the format of the parade, it being a largely public event at which it would be virtually impossible to ensure all attendees checked in, was not compatible with COVID-safe planning.
She said there was no way the City of Launceston Lions Club, the coordinators of the event, could come up with an alternative.
Instead, the Lions Club would be selling Christmas cakes and puddings from the Balls and Bumpers "Christmas Ghetto" shop from mid-November.
The decision comes a month after the Hobart Christmas parade was cancelled, drawing online criticism and an impassioned defence from Hobart Mayor Anna Reynolds.
