Adam Richard Brooks, 45, did not appear in Redcliffe Magistrates Court when his matter was listed on Thursday.

But his lawyer Brendan Beavon told magistrate Mark Bucknall that the former politician was on bail and in regular contact.

The court heard the prosecution was waiting for information including a statement from a police officer who was on leave until the end of September.

"There's no one else who can pick up the baton and produce the material?" Mr Bucknall said.

"When someone goes away on holiday that's it - the wheels of justice stop.

"It's just not good enough."

Brooks is charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a category H weapon and unauthorised possession of explosives. Those charges relate to a handgun and ammunition.

He is also facing two charges of possessing tainted property, which is referred to in court documents as a Western Australia Police badge, drivers licences, credit cards and a USB stick.

Brooks has also been charged with three counts of unlawful possession of an article resembling a licence.

These relate to him allegedly having Victorian and Queensland drivers licences that were "calculated to deceive", according to court documents.

The court heard during an earlier appearance Brooks intended to plead guilty to the weapon and explosives charge.

Brooks was arrested after authorities received a tip-off and executed a search warrant on a Marine Parade apartment at Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, on May 12.

An additional charge was added the same month after Brooks allegedly broke a bail condition requiring him to report once a week to the Redcliffe police station, about a kilometre from where he is living.

At the time of his arrest Brooks was in Queensland seeking medical treatment after he resigned one day after being re-elected to the Tasmanian parliament.

Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein confirmed at the time Brooks was in Queensland undertaking treatment for his mental health and was "not in a good space".

Brooks won the seat of Braddon in the May 1 state poll but resigned before taking office.

The one-time Tasmanian mining minister, who served in the seat of Braddon from 2010 to 2019, was also accused during the state election campaign of catfishing two women using a fake dating profile.

He denied those allegations at the time.

Brooks' case has been listed for review on October 14.
