I recently attended the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative of the Battle of Long Tan.
The views expressed both publicly and privately did not seem to agree with Mr Pearce's viewpoint. All seemed to agree it was Vietnam all over again.
With the US, Australia all jumping in boots and all amidst flowery phrases from John Howard who publicly stated he doesn't regret the decision. This is despite allies leaving with eggs on their collective faces and once again utter chaos behind them.
Well Mr Pearce, ask the families of the dead, the maimed, the mentally unstable if it was worth the effort? See if they agree.

QUARANTINE CONUNDRUMS
AFTER reading the letter from Russell Locke (The Examiner, August 30) I cannot understand how a family is being stopped from coming home to their own state to home quarantine when footballers can enter our state and a stay at retreats for entertainment value, as in to entertain the crowd with the sport.
Basically, people who don't live here are given certain rights and privileges that residents are denied.
Why is it that some can come to play sport, and some rightfully for funerals etc with a pass, but a family can't return home?
This is happening when we are in a state where some people enter stores without sanitising or signing in. I witness this daily.
What is wrong with the system which allows some things but denies a family the right to be in their own state and home?
There simply cannot be one set of rules for some and a different set for others can there? I agree with Mr Locke in saying the same in Australia.

CLIMATE POLL RESULTS
AUSTRALIA'S biggest climate poll was published recently.
Australia has spoken, and it has been made very clear that Australians expect our government to address climate change.
Regional voters are almost as concerned as city dwellers, so past claims that it was only "inner-city Greenies" who are concerned about climate is wholly untrue.
Given how united Australians are across the country in their desire for strong action on climate, it is unacceptable for the climate denialist Queensland Nationals to be controlling the climate policies for the federal government.
We, the Australians, deserve a government that acts in our best interests.
If the Prime Minister and the Liberal Party do not bring in strong climate policies that we expect, then they need to be prepared to face the wrath of voters in the coming federal election.
