Record Store Day coming to Avenue Records

Avenue Records owner Callum Nobes said the day was the most important one of the year for the store.

"There's a fair bit of hype because of all the exclusive releases," he said.

"It's the one day we can get an advantage on the chain stores. People come to us and it's important we get it right."

Mr Nobes said there was going to be over 100 exclusive titles on the day, and many of the items they were stocking also had multiple copies.

"There's probably more Record Store Day stuff than past years which will be good," he said.

Mr Nobes said about 75 per cent of releases would be out on the day - June 12 - with more due to be released on the second day of the event - July 17.

New releases that are selling well for the store already include work from Crowded House, Spacey Jane, and the Songs From Solitude, The Lockdown Lowdown album.

Mr Nobes said there would be plenty of stock available. He ordered more stock to compensate for suppliers telling him to expect less than previous years, but most deliveries came through.

"We have a fair bit this year. It's a good problem to have," he said.

Also on offer will be plenty of second hand records for those hunting for something older.

Avenue Records will be open from 8am until 4pm on June 12 for the event.

"The day is actually really enjoyable," Mr Nobes said.
