"We want to see MMG take an alternative route, we want to see this beautiful rainforest and the myriad of species it sustains protected and we want MMG to get the message," she said.
"They need to start looking at alternative sites."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The proposed concept has proven to be controversial with the Tasmanian Greens and Bob Brown Foundation leading the opposition to the development.
However, MMG has previously said that the Rosebery site may have to close if a new tailing site is not found with the current tailings site nearing full capacity.
"We know that the Bob Brown Foundation's forest defenders are absolutely determined to stop this toxic mine dump and we stand with them," Ms O'Connor said.
The zinc, copper and lead based Rosebery site is 85-year-old.
Previously, the state government has reiterated that any proposal from MMG would haveto go through the appropriate assessment and approvals process before being constructed.
