Craig Williams has always appreciated books and always had a passion for art but he never thought words on a page would be nature's perfect backdrop.

Williams has made a specialty of showcasing birds of nature on vintage pages and the results of the artworks even surprised him.
"It was really when I started marrying the birds themselves to the pages and how the birds sat within the pages that's where it really came together," he said.
"Birds have been a passion of mine since childhood so it was natural to come back and just focus on birds."
Williams uses thrifted books as his canvas, with the pages often being related to the animal in the painting, which he said provided new life to them and avoided creating more landfill.
"By painting a bird on the field guide page quite often it is painted on a page that references the bird itself so it is paying homage to people that wrote field guides all those years ago," he said.
"The book and the page itself has had a life and this is a way to sort of extend that life and to add another chapter to that page as it goes into a new realm of being looked at."

Williams said he was excited to show his new work at the Niche Exhibit on March 27 at Albert Hall where he will be a first time exhibitor.
"It's a lovely market that gets the creative community together and to be able to show you wares amongst the amazing work others are doing ... it's a wonderful thing," he said.
