"It's different to the rest of Australia, particularly during the winter months it's where Tassie is the most different, we certainly get a bit weird and wonderful with some of the festivals we hold.

"We're really confident, having four ports of entry into Tasmania at half price over the next three months and the biggest campaign we've ever run, we think Tassie's going to be right up there in terms of competitive edge

"I think there's been pent-up demand for Tasmania and this just adds that extra incentive."

Mr Fitzgerald said he'd received positive feedback about a tourism campaign currently running in New Zealand, attracting future visitors to Tasmania.

"We've got a great buzz in New Zealand," he said.

"We'd seen a lot of growth in the market pre-COVID, so we're really confident that with direct flights and the campaign activity we'll see a lot of Kiwis in Tassie.

"I think we're the most interesting and unordinary place in Australia, and the feedback we're getting is really positive, we've got so much to offer people here."
