Banners drawing attention to climate change were slung across the Cataract Gorge on Saturday morning as Extinction Rebellion members tried to raise awareness and demand action on the issue.

The campaign tied in with the group's nation wide action in major cities and towns.
The group attached a banner to the Gorge's Alexander Suspension Bridge about 6am, before being asked to remove it and did so. About five people also carried individual banners on the chairlift at 10am.

ER Launceston member Steve Saunders said the federal government must catch up with the international community in taking stronger action.
"Everyone loves cooling off at the Basin, but we can't ignore the fact that we know the whole Earth is heating up and we are in a crisis.
"People and animals are dying. It's urgent. We want meaningful action on climate change," he said.
It comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison was snubbed this week from a talking slot at a United Nations climate summit.
