Premiers the past three seasons, North made it six wins on the trot with a 56-point win at North Hobart, while Launceston subjected an under-strength Glenorchy to a 17.16 (118) to 3.3 (21) defeat.
On a day when Joe Groenewegen made a successful return through the development league, Launceston received four free kicks before the first bounce with star Pies pair Jaye Bowden and Ben Kamaric joining Adam Roberts and Riley Oakley as late outs.

Kamaric's midfield absence was sorely felt as Jobi Harper and Fletcher Seymour dominated from the outset and it was only a succession of wasted chances that kept the Magpies in the contest at quarter time.
The Blues were able to find goals from all avenues, with an Alec Wright mid-air volley and twin changeroom pocket snaps from coach Mitch Thorp and Dylan Riley the pick of the bunch.
After missing two tough shots from the same pocket, debutant Isaac Hyatt received the biggest cheer of the game for a 40m set shot which momentarily took the Blues' lead to three figures.
At the other end, ex-Blue Ethan Conway's first-term major remained the visitors' only goal until midway through the last term.
"We just did what we needed to do," Thorp said.
"We were inefficient in front of goal in the first quarter and inefficient with our entries which was frustrating - the scoreboard should have been a lot more one-sided than what it was.
"But we had 10 individual goalkickers and Jobi was outstanding in the midfield, he had 40 disposals and kicked three goals.
"He was pretty crook before the game and he led from the front in there. I thought [Jared] Dakin was quite good around the football, Fletcher Seymour was pretty strong and our next tier of players - Jacob Boyd, Grant Holt, Jamieson House, Miller Hodge - they were very good."
House enjoyed his most prolific game since returning to Windsor Park and diligently mopped up spillages at centre-half back, often linking up with the aforementioned small defenders.
Fresh from kicking eight goals last weekend, Riley narrowly missed a goal of the year contender in the first minute of the game and hit the post 30 seconds after.
Somehow among a highlight reel of soaring grabs, goal assists and in-and-under roving, the 27-year-old only finished with two goals to his name.
"Credit to Dyl and the forwards - we just want to be a team that's full of good teammates and the ball was passed off multiple times inside 50," Thorp said.
"Dyl could have kicked another bag, but he cares more about the team than he does his own individual accolades.
"He could have kicked six comfortably but he lowered his eyes and passed the ball off as good teammates do."
The win has the Blues in good form ahead of a trip to Lauderdale next week.
"We got through unscathed, we saw some of our hard-nosed football for a long period of the game so it can only be a good thing," Thorp said.
"The last two games have been really positive after we faced a little bit of adversity, but ultimately we got some of our soldiers back.
"We were a little bit thin through those two losses and we've now got a bit of maturity back on the ground with Seymour and [Michael] Musicka in particular."
