News director Grant Wilson confirmed the new presenter had been chosen and would be announced "in due course".
"There's just a couple of other pieces of the jigsaw puzzle to fall into place," he said.
"Louise Hedger, who has read Christmas bulletins and also anchors our South Australia bulletin, will be reading for the next two or three weekends and then Tom Johnson's going to be doing a bit of work."
After almost a decade presenting the weekend news, Williams announced she was stepping down to spend more time with her family and focus on her freelance writing business.
Her departure from Seven Tasmania came after Jo Palmer also left her role as long-term weekday news presenter in February.
Palmer is now on track to take a seat in Tasmania's Upper House as the Liberal member for Rosevears.
