Northern Tasmanians will have two months to have their say on the future of facilities in the Launceston General Hospital health precinct.
The state government has commenced a public consultation process for the LGH Masterplan, with public submissions now open.
Health Minister Sarah Courtney said the plan, including clinical services, would set out a clear path for the hospital's future and inform the delivery of health services.
"The first two stages of the LGH Masterplan are already complete and the clinical planning taskforce has been working with a Northern Reference Group on the next stages of the process," Ms Courtney said.
"The government is now commencing a comprehensive public consultation process to complete the final three stages, which includes clinical services planning."
On Monday Ms Courtney will write to several health stakeholders to seek their input, ranging from consumers, community and professional groups.
Staff will also be informed of the consultation process.
Ms Courtney said the masterplan would included consideration of both the main LGH campus and facilities in the surrounding precinct, including: a potential future collocated private hospital; the Anne O'Byrne building; 39 Frankland Street; John L Grove; the Allambi building; and the former nurses' home buildings.
"It is crucial that members of the community have the best possible opportunity to have their say on this important process and the government is determined to ensure we get this right," she said.
"That is why we are undertaking this comprehensive consultation process and have extended the period of time for completion."
Ms Courtney said there would be a public forum following considerations of the submissions, with the LGH Masterplan expected to be completed in May next year.
"The government has already committed $87.3 million to redevelop the LGH and I am excited the LGH Masterplan will inform the next stages of this work," she said.
The deadline for submissions will close at 5pm on February 14, 2020.
