A total of 23 teams will descend on the state for five days of competition from November 30, across Woods Lake, Penstock and Little Pine lagoons, along with the Meander and Mersey rivers.
The event was previously held in Tasmania in 1988. Australia last hosted the championships at Jindabyne, NSW, in 1999.
Mr Hodgman said more than 1000 visitors were expected to travel to Tasmania during the event in a "major boost" for regional economies.
The Tasmanian government has provided $100,000 in funding for the event. The Inland Fisheries Service and Tourism Tasmania have also provided assistance.
