Clinton Charles Wilson, 27, appeared in the Launceston Supreme Court on Wednesday, entering guilty pleas to committing an unlawful act intended to cause bodily harm and aggravated armed robbery.
Robert Alexander Friend was punched, elbowed, kicked and hit with a wooden baton to his face, head and body between January 9 and 10.
Cash and the drug ice were also stolen from Mr Friend during the ordeal.
Defence lawyer Mark Doyle told acting Justice Brian Martin that Wilson's case wasn't ready to proceed to facts and sentence because his client was still going over prosecution facts and some were in dispute.

But the court heard a disputed facts hearing would not be necessary as the discrepancies would be resolved through a discussion with the state.
Wilson was remanded to reappear on November 18.
The 27-year-old was one of five people charged over the assault on Mr Friend in 2018.
Co-accused Jake Douglas Herlihy, 20, also appeared in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Mr Herlihy has pleaded not guilty to the same charges Wilson faced, with his lawyer James Oxley confirming the case would likely go to trial at the start of the November sittings.
Mr Herlihy was bailed to reappear on November 18.
