Under the policy, Dorset residents would be able to apply for a mobile food vendor permit for free.
Non-Dorset residents would pay $750.
Permits will last for one year, and food vendors that are successful in getting a permit will be able to park at the following approved locations:
- Old Pier Beach car park and the Trent Water car park at Bridport
- Derby Park and the Blue Derby trail head at Derby
- Northeast Park at Scottsdale
- Other locations considered and determined at the discretion of the general manager
Director of community and development Rohan Willis said it was time for the council to embrace the possibilities for food vans in Dorset.
"Growth in business confidence and investment in Dorset has surged over recent years," he said.
"It is therefore unsurprising that mobile food vendors, both local and from elsewhere, would want to take advantage of the opportunities our prosperous business climate offers.
"Interest from mobile food vendors to trade in areas such as Bridport, Derby and Scottsdale has increased significantly over the past 12 months.
"Council is supportive of mobile food vendor opportunities that will encourage food business diversity, local entrepreneurialism and a high standard of customer service delivery in food services."

Meanwhile, the council will also vote on whether they will join the City of Launceston and Meander Valley in providing a car for the mayor.
In the agenda for the Monday night meeting, general manager Tim Watson proposes budgeting $50,000 for the purchase of a mayoral car.
"The consensus of councillors and senior staff is that the level of remuneration for the mayoral position via councillor allowances is an anachronism from a bygone era," he said.
[It] in no way reflects the volume of the work performed in carrying out the duties of the role."
