Audiences at the Princess Theatre on Wednesday night were the first to see the off-colour gags, sharp satire and musical numbers (and nudity) for which the show is known.
The Lyin' King plays at 8pm until Saturday, inviting audiences to relive the federal election via the African savanna and the familiar story of Simba, Scar, and an epic struggle for power.
Co-director Beck Andrews there was no shortage of materials for political satirists.
"There's always going to be people and politicians to poke fun at and they sort of ask for it sometimes," she said.
"There's nothing sacred, and the politicians feed us the content sometimes."
She said to expect lampooning of federal politics as covered by the national news, as well as the unique absurdities of the Tasmania.
