National Road Series' Tour of the Great South Coast sees Tasmanian success

Launceston's regular track teammates Josh Duffy and Zack Gilmore were celebrating after the Portland criterium which was the eighth and final stage of the Tour of the Great South Coast.

Riding for the Campolina Racing and Breeding team, Duffy delivered a sixth place finish (and 33^rd overall) while Gilmore's tireless efforts ensured his own 46th-placed finish and helped Australian Cycling Academy teammates Kelland O'Brien and Sam Welsford to finish first and third overall respectively.

In a breakout performance, Duffy's teammate Daniel DiDomenico, of Hobart, finished the final stage 24^th to be 21^st overall (+8:59) and fourth in the young riders category.

Duffy was eighth and Zach Johnson (Drapac Cannondale Holistic development), also of Launceston, ninth (37^th overall) to see three Tasmanians in the top 10 young riders.

Team BridgeLane's Hobart riders Kaine Cannan and Ben Van Dam produced solid efforts, finishing 14^th (+2:03) and 25^th (+11:10) respectively.

After riding strongly all week, Smithton's Iven Bennett was forced to withdraw in stage seven due to an injury sustained in a fall earlier in the race.

Launceston's Richie Porte finished 60^th in the Deutschland Tour won by his Trek-Segafredo teammate Jasper Stuyven.

Hobart's Nathan Earle finished 90^th in the 248-kilometre Bretagne Classic in Plouay and will remain in France for his next one-day race, the GP de Fourmies / La Voix du Nord on Sunday.

Campbell Town's Will Clarke is on an identical program but failed to finish the Bretagne Classic.
