Tasmanian Whisky Week highlights Northern distillers with event at Cataract on Paterson

The Northern Nights event will take place as part of the upcoming Tasmanian Whisky Week.

Launceston Distillery managing director Chris Condon said the week kept getting bigger and bigger each year.

"It just shows that the North is coming of age, and more and more distilleries are maturing and coming to market," he said.

"There are a lot of events all around the state, a lot in the south, but it's nice to see big events happening in the North."

The distilleries involved in the Northern Night dinner include Adams Distillery, Corra Linn Distillery, Fannys Bay Distillery, Hellyers Road Distillery, Turners Stillhouse, Iron House, and Launceston Distillery.

"They're all bringing along a whisky and the team at Cataract of Paterson are making some lovely canapes to match the single malts," Mr Condon said.

"It's a nice casual affair. Each distillery talks a little bit about their whisky and their distillery."

Mr Condon said it should be a good event, with between 80 to 100 people expected to attend.

Cataract on Paterson chef David Cox said they were excited to be involved in this year's Tasmanian Whisky Week.

"We have risen to the challenge of matching canapes to this fabulous range of whiskies from Northern Tasmania," he said.

Tasmanian Whisky and Spirits Association executive assistant Emma Gilligan said it was the fourth year of Tasmanian Whisky Week, and the event had grown to a massive 22 events across the state.

"As the industry grows, the event has grown to meet demand," she said.

Tasmanian Whisky Week will run from August 12 to 18.

Though many of the events are taking place in the state's south, Northern Tasmania will be highlighted.

A bus tour on Monday, August 12 will visit three Northern Distilleries, a cooperage, and a specialty whisky bar. A taste and meet event will also take place on the East Coast.
