"The collectible books are very popular," said City Mission operations manager Greg Howard.
But with an estimated 15,000 second-hand items across a wide range of topics and genres, there will be something for all reading appetites.
The interactive children's books are highly sought after, as are the board games and cookbooks. Puzzles and DVDs also seem to be high on people's priorities.
"You just find that all walks of life come here," he said. "Each year we have people waiting at the door before 9am ready to get in."

The event began six years ago as a way to both raise money for the emergency relief work undertaken by the organisation and to move excess stock it had accumulated. After visiting a similar event in Brisbane, Mr Howard said he figured the idea could also work well in Launceston.
"We had excess stock that we just really couldn't do anything with," he said. "I have a recycling background but I just didn't want to turn it into pulp or anything like that."
To do this, items are marked at half the usual price they would sell for in a City Mission store. This year, the money will be directed toward a number of youth services programs.
"It does get bigger and better. We fine tune it and find out what sells and doesn't sell," Mr Howard said. "We believe it gets bigger and better every year."
- The City Mission Bookfest will take place at the Door of Hope Christian Church from 9am to 4pm, Friday and Saturday
