But, it is fact that about 700 karate competitors from every Australian state will converge on Launceston in August for the Australian Karate Federation's National Karate Championship.
The event will be held over three days at the Silverdome.
Event organiseres have asked the City of Launceston council for $20,000 event sponsorship to host the event.
The council has recommended giving $15,000 to the event and will vote on the proposal at its meeting on Thursday.
The meeting's agenda said the approval of the recommended event sponsorship would result in positive economic impact for the Launceston community, with a number of valuable social impacts for the region.
The championships will be held on August 2 until August 4. In addition to the competition, there will also be a variety of martial art demonstrations.
