Targa media manager Ian Chesterman said it was the 28th year of the event, and that it had worked its way into the Tasmanian psyche.
He said one of the greatest things about the event was that it encompassed the whole state.
"I think that's the really nice thing about the event - you can be at St Helens, George Town, Burnie, Strahan, and see the event pass either through your town or past your front door," he said.
Alongside the racing, Targa events off the track are expected to gain a lot of traction with fans.
Targafest
Targafest will take place at the Launceston Silverdome on Sunday, April 28, and Wednesday, May 1.
Mr Chesterman said the expo was a great chance to see the cars up-close and personal.
"It's proven to be very popular over the years. If you're standing beside the road the cars go past that quickly, whereas here you can just get right up close and look around," he said.
"There's some fascinating machinery there, all the way from 1938 right through to the latest cars."
Mr Chesterman said a $650,000 Ferrari 488 Pista would also be on show.
"It's the only time it's been on display in Tasmania, and it's only been displayed once elsewhere. That'll be pretty special to see."
Tickets can be purchased at the door, with adults $10 and children 12 and under free.

Ceremonial Start
The official ceremonial start of the competition will take place from 7.30am on Monday outside the Country Club.
This year's flag car is David Ogg and Andrew Lombe's 1970 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750. They will lead the field away from the official start at 9.45am.
Street Stage
On Monday, April 29, the George Town Street Stage will take place. "It's very much a part of Targa's history," Mr Chesterman said.
Roads will be closed between 11am and 3.30pm, with the first tour car due about 11.30am and the first competition car due at noon.
Patrons will have the chance to watch the cars speed through the streets, and then mingle with drivers as the cars are on display at Regent Square from noon.
"It's a great opportunity again, with all the cars parked up there waiting for their turn around the four-kilometre street stage," Mr Chesterman said.
"It really marks the start of Targa every year."
