Meander Valley Council advertised the development application for Hagley RV Farm Stay at 62 Meander Valley Road, Hagley, on Saturday, inviting public comment.
The Caminos plan to set aside an area in the north-east corner of their property for a low-cost camping site for self-contained recreational vehicles.
They use most of the property to grow grass for fodder, but see one section would be better suited as a camp site, Mrs Camino said.
“We have a nice flat area. It is class 4 ground, which is not as productive,” she said.
“Visual impact from the road will be minimal due to [a] tree row along the boundary.”
The couple envisages the site would accommodate a maximum of 20 RVs paying $10 per night, and operate between six and eight months of the year between September and April.
If approved, the site would start operating as soon as possible.
“We’re planning to open as soon as we get the green light,” Mrs Camino said.
“We just need some signage and taps.”
Access to the camping facility would be through the property’s existing driveway off Meander Valley Road, through the paddock and across a bridge over the water course.
The application also includes a double-sided metal sign, sized 1800 by 900 millimetres, and painted in green, black and cream at the eastern side of the access driveway.
Meander Valley Council voted unanimously to prepare a planning permit to allow campers back on the Westbury Recreation Ground in December 2018, after camping was banned there and at Bracknell earlier in the year.
Mrs Camino said free camping had recently opened at Quamby Brook.
Comments on the Meander Valley Road camping site development close on Tuesday, February 12.
