That is the message from Road Trauma Support Service Tasmania. 

A spokeswoman for the organisation said they offer free and confidential counselling and support service to people affected by road crashes in Tasmania. 

“The crash might have happened recently or a long time ago, the time frames don’t matter – if someone is struggling with the aftermath of a crash, we encourage them to contact us,” she said. 

“We also offer support in other areas, some of these being: - helping clients fill out MAIB forms, liaising on their behalf with the Police or Justice Department and accompanying people to court.”

The support service has offices in Launceston and Hobart, see people on the North-West. 

Cheryl Swan has been in weekly contact with a road trauma counsellor since her son Daniel was killed in a crash on Mother’s Day last year. 

Ms Swan said the support has been amazing.

“Having that one consistent person has really helped, without her I don’t know how I would’ve done it,” she said said.

The spokeswoman said every crash has a significant impact on the victim’s loved ones.

“It can range from a victim’s loved ones taking time out from their usual daily activities to care and support them, through to the emotional devastation experienced when a loved one is killed and their lives changing forever.There is a huge cost emotionally, physically and financially for a victim’s loved ones,” she said.
