He recounted his teenage years as he launched his book at Petrarchs Bookstore on Saturday November 17.
His book, titled Around the Grounds, tells the story of how Mr Newlinds went from playing backyard cricket in suburban Sydney to the iconic voice of ABC’s Grandstand.
“It's my life story but it's also intertwined with my story in the media and my career as a commentator at the ABC,” Mr Newlinds said.
“How I started in the media and how my love of cricket and of sport drew me towards the spoken word of broadcasting.”
Mr Newlinds said it was a difficult process to find a publisher, however once he did it was all systems go.
“Through a lot of persistence and some good opportunities and good luck I found a really wonderful niche working for ABC’s Grandstand,” he said.
