On Tuesday, the Meander Valley Council overturned a decision it made in October to ask for community consultation to be included in the Firearms Act.
The October motion was put forward by former councillor Bob Richardson, who did not run for re-election. The motion was passed four votes to three.
However, this month re-elected deputy mayor Michael Kelly brought a motion to the council to have the decision rescinded. The motion passed seven votes to two.
“I haven't heard any concerns from the community from the people that i associate with that have had any concerns about what is happening … other than the fact the firearms legislation is a bit constraining to be honest,” Cr Kelly said.
Councillor Frank Nott said it made sense to rescind the original motion as two councillors away, and now there are five new councillors.
Councillors John Temple and Andrew Connor voted against the motion.
