Last month, the council voted to write to the government after it approved a development application to allow a gun shop to start operating in the region.
The motion was won four to three.
However, now deputy mayor Michael Kelly wants to take the motion back to council to have it over turned.
“The matter was not discussed at workshop with the full council prior to consideration at the October meeting,” he said.
“It is not an issue within the community and has not been raised by community representatives.”
He also said the proposal to have widespread community consultation was not practical and did not recognise the “thorough” vetting processes already in place.
“It should have been a matter for the new council to consider. In addition I do not think it is a council matter,” he said.
At the October meeting, Cr Kelly said he was “very comfortable” with the development application proposal saying there had been a lot of hype.
General manager Martin Gill said the council was yet to write to the different levels of government about the Firearms Act.
The council’s meeting will start at 1.30pm at Westbury Council Chambers.
It will be the new council’s first meeting.
