About 80 visitors, including West Tamar mayor Christina Holmdahl, gathered at the Exeter Show Hall to have the first look at the working artist and artisan studios.

The studios were established following a successful grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund.

The West Tamar Arts Group has been integral to the project, having been approached for support at the beginning of the year.

Vice-chairwoman Hilary Keeley said the studios were a win-win for the Exeter community.

“For artists, it’s a space where they can create and just be around other artists,” she said.

“There is also a tourism aspect, because it helps keep people in Exeter for longer.

“The tourism information centre and other businesses could benefit from the studios.”

Twenty-five artists will use rostered studio space in the hall from Wednesday to Saturday each week, until the end of April. 

A variety of mediums will be on display, including painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, ceramics, jewellery, felting and various textile art forms.
