They were treated to a guest visit from the Launceston Mustang Car group, who assisted the residents in checking out the cars.
A few of them even went for a spin.
Organiser Bruce Bennett said it wouldn’t have been a new experience for all of the residents.
“Some of them were lead foots back in the day, by the sound of some of the stories that were being told,” he said.
The event came from a need for more male-oriented activities at the home, which, like most care facilities, has a female-dominated staff.
Leisure and Lifestyle assistant Janet Kentt said they were eager for new ideas on engaging residents and having fun at the home.
“We have a beautiful facility and we welcome people to come and visit us, and if they have any ideas about what they’d like to bring we’d more than welcome them,” she said.
Mr Bennett said the event for the residents was not for any particular special occasion, but just because “they’re special.”
“It wouldn't matter if we did this every day as we will never repay this generation for what they have done for us or taught us,” he said.
“A lot of the news at the moment is all about the negative within aged care, but there are workers who love these guys and put the extra hours in for free, and there is especially not enough news about the actual residents themselves and their families.”
