Tasmania Fire crews from Launceston, Rocherlea, and Prospect were called out to a fire at Khon’s Asian Takeaway about 6.20pm on Sunday.
Sateesh Dama, an employee of the Indian Grocery Store next door to Khon’s, said he received a call on Sunday evening to alert him of the fire.
“I got a call saying there was a fire next to the shop,” he said.
Mr Dama was concerned the fire may have been started by the freezers or something inside the store that he had forgotten to switch off.
He rushed out to the shop and entered to find smoke inside.
“Once I went inside and opened the doors and I checked along the closed door, I saw that everything was okay,” he said.
TasNetworks disconnected the power to some buildings in the vicinity for safety reasons.
As of Monday afternoon, the two impacted businesses’ power was reconnected.
Tasmania Fire Service said the damage to Khon’s was estimated at $120,000.
After an investigation the cause of the fire was deemed an accident, and was believed to be caused by unattended cooking on a gas wok.
An ambulance attended the scene to treat one person with smoke inhalation.
