It is understood a fire broke out in a building on Invermay Road on Sunday afternoon, with the incident reported about 6.20pm.
Firefighters were working near Khon’s Asian Takeaway and the Indian Grocery stores, where the fire was believed to have started.
The blaze was contained, but Tasmania Fire Service had five units, including two heavy pumpers, two heavy tankers and a medium tanker still at the scene just after 7pm.
Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania and TasNetworks also attended.
It is not yet known if anybody was inside the building when the fire started.
