The two pallets of 20 kilogram bags of dog food left Exeter on Tuesday and will be distributed along with bales of hay already leaving the state.
S&C Club president Tim Evans said the group decided to donate after hearing of a pensioner from George Town who had donated $300 worth of dog food to the farmers.
“She said that she’s heard there’s been lots of money raised for all these farmers, but what about their animals? They've all got working dogs,” he said.
“We’ve [helped] in a way that best suits us, we thought, because we love our animals – and their working dogs have got to eat too.
“Goodness knows if the farmers aren’t doing good, we aren’t going to be doing good, and I don’t think enough people realise that, personally.”
The money was raised through raffles and other community activities, and a discounted price was organised by Exeter Farm and Feed.
The Services and Community Club has about 200 members, which is 30 per cent of the town of Exeter.
They donated $15000 last year to charities, including supporting local sporting people to represent Tasmania.
One hundred per cent of NSW is now officially in drought, and Tasmanians have donated more than $200,000 in supplies so far.
