Mr Thompson is the former managing director of management consulting firm Macquarie Franklin.
He has extensive experience in agribusiness developments and irrigation systems, according to Primary Industries Minister Sarah Courtney.
“[Mr Thompson] is well regarded in the Tasmanian farming and agricultural sectors and has held a number of chairman and director positions with irrigation boards both on a national and international scale,” she said.
Mr Thompson replaces outgoing director Roger Gill.
