Vodka, cointreau, lemon juice, cranberry juice, and a touch of spice have been shaken up as a key player as part of The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal.
Penny Royal Wine Bar and Restaurant manager Andrea Andreotti said the cocktail, aptly named Winter Relief, will be available in the lead up to The Examiner’s first ever cocktail party.
“It’s going to taste warm like Christmas,” he said.
Part of the funds from each cocktail purchased will be donated to the appeal.
The cocktail party will take place at Penny Royal from 6.30pm on Friday, August 10.
Every cent of the ticket prices will be donated to the appeal.
There has been extensive support from the local business community, who have come on board to donate raffle prizes for the night.
The Examiner’s editor Courtney Greisbach said the party was a way to thank the community for its support over the appeal’s last 60 years.
“The Examiner is very excited to be hosting an event that will directly benefit four local charities,” she said.
“The cocktail party is a great opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy a fabulous evening, but more importantly change lives simply by attending the event.”
Greisbach said it was bittersweet to recognise the 60th year of the Winter Relief Appeal.
“While it's brilliant to see the generosity of our community in action every year, it's also sobering to hear the stories of people in our community doing it tough.”
Throughout the last 59 years of the appeal, the paper has raised more than $3.5 million for the Benevolent Society, St Vincent de Paul’s, the Salvation Army and City Mission.
The Examiner’s goal in 2018 is $60,000. More than $28,000 has already been raised. About 150 people are expected to attend the event.
Tickets are available from Launceston Tickets or through the Launceston Chamber of Commerce on 6331 9364.
