Property rates for Bellingham, Weymouth, Lulworth, Lefroy and Beechford residents have increased under the council’s 2018-19 budget by 6.04 per cent.
Hillwood, Mt Direction, Pipers Brook and Pipers River rates have increased 4.78 per cent and George Town and Low Head 2.44 per cent.
George Town Mayor Bridget Archer said the council was “sympathetic” to residents experiencing rate rises.
In other news:
“We [the council] are obviously conscious that for some residents in the country and coastal regions particularly, they will have a higher increase this year than in others,” she said.
“We have identified the need to invest in a long-term financial plan, with the importance of having a single average area rate.
“These increases have been implemented with a view of bringing these areas into line with each other over the next five years.”
The budget was passed seven votes to two.
