The funds would bring the 2018 Rally Championships to Launceston in August. However, Events Tasmania was unable to confirm if it would commit to the $200,000 funding.
Retreat, Lisle, Mt Barrow/Camden and Ragged Jack at Blessington have been identified as preferred locations by CAMS. The event would be held on August 2 until 5 and was last held in Tasmania in 2010.
The event has previously held in Ballarat and 6000 people attended. Tasmania has 23 CAMS affiliated car clubs. CAMS has nearly 9000 volunteers, 58 employees, and 34,000 active members.
City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said benefits to Launceston would be enormous.
