Tasmania Fire Service was called to the Bridgenorth Road property just after noon on Monday, where a man in his 70s was found.
It is understood the vehicle moved while the man was completing mechanical works, trapping him underneath.
Tasmania Fire Service crews worked to remove the campervan from on top of him, but the man did not survive.
Both Tasmania Police and the State Emergency Service were also called the scene.
Senior Sergeant Mike Gillies said the man’s wife and a number of other people were home at the time of the incident.
“There were people in the residence and they were able to call for assistance,” Senior Sergeant Gillies said.
“The fire brigade attended initially, with reports of a rescue … but when it became obvious he was deceased, Tasmania Police was notified.”
While the incident has been described as a shocking tragedy, Senior Sergeant Gillies said anybody planning to work under a vehicle was urged to do so safely.
“If you’re going to work underneath anything, a vehicle or anything of significant weight, make sure it is properly secured and can’t move,” Senior Sergeant Gillies said.
Online tributes have started pouring in for the man, who has been described as a “a beautiful man” with a “very big heart” who will be “missed beyond comprehension”.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
